Abstract:
Online surveys are one of the most widely used instrument for data collection. As a researcher, you never know on forehand on which device a respondent is going to complete your survey. More and more people use tablets and smartphones for survey completion. As a result, online surveys should be designed in such a way that they are user-friendly on regular desktop PC, tablet and smartphone. I will discuss three issues that come with mobile-friendly surveys:
1. Designing for small screen sizes
2. Designing for short surveys (data chunking or modular survey design)
3. Using sensor data (GPS, accelerometers, camera, video, etc-> with associated issues of consent and privacy)
